Tips for Booking Japanese Wedding Venues
1. Haggle on price customization requests before booking or signing a venue agreement
Part of process of choosing a wedding venue in Japan includes going back and forth with one of the venue planners on price before signing an agreement. Take the time to decide which options and customizations are most important to you and don’t be afraid to asks for price discounts on the first quotes the venue presents to you. Once the agreement is signed, custom requests such as using an outside vendor such as videographer/photographer, bringing your own dress etc. will be much more difficult. Often times venues will flat out say “no” to requests after an agreement has been signed or charge fees of 30,000 - 100,000yen for each customization. For instance, one of the couples we’ve worked with requested 5 minutes be added to their ceremony program and the venue flat-out refused.
2. Get married on a weekday Mon-Thursday
Saturday, Sunday, and Friday are the most popular days of the week to get married. Many venues offer cheaper pricing or more flexibility for weddings mid-week which is an ideal time for couples looking to save money or have more flexibility and customization.
3. Get married during non-peak seasons
Just like weekends, there are certain times of the year in Japan when the weather is more comfortable, and weather is typically better. September - November as well as late march and April are all very popular seasons for weddings and venues tend to be less flexible during the most popular months/seasons.
4. Use a private venue instead of a traditional wedding venue
There are hundreds if not thoustands of beautiful restaurants and private venues in Tokyo and throughout Japan that you can book for the day or a few hours. These private venues tend to be much cheaper and most importantly allow for a lot more planning flexibility and customization compared to traditional wedding venues ran by wedding companies.
